Paper Reverie

How beautiful is the Paper Reverie range from Making Memories!  I’ve been dreaming of doing a layout with this range since I ordered it late in 2010.

For this week’s layout I used the Sienne range and I really like how this layout turned out.  The paper is so beautiful and inspiring that it didn’t take long to get the layout together.

Making memories have beautiful butterflies in matching paper and colours and they are darting all over my layout.

The matching baubles are the perfect embellishment to use with the butterflies and add extra dimension to the layout.

A ruffled rayon ribbon matching the patterns on the background is the ideal place for a pearl pin with a dewdrop dangling from it.

The title of the page is ‘Dreamer’ and I added a crown with a bit of the rayon ribbon tied through it above the title to add interest.

We have been doing quite feminine pages since the start of the new year and I think the boys men are starting to feel left out :(.  Our next scrapbooking layout will be a masculine page fit for a king!

Thanks for stopping by!

New Beginning

On Monday I realised how dependant we are on electricity.  Just after the kettle has boiled at 06h00 our power went down – and stayed down until late that afternoon…  Everything I planned to do on Monday relied on electricity 😦 , therefore no blogging, no printing of instructions for classes, no photo printing.

With everything back to normal again I would like to show you some details of our crafty scrapbooking layout for this week.  I found an online tutorial for homemade paper flowers that I made for this layout and it turned out beautifully!  My instructions for the layout include all the steps (with pictures) to complete this beautiful flower.

The title of the page is ‘New Beginning’ since we still are in January and hopefully fresh from holiday!

I used the January page from a small calendar, dry-brushed and stamped the word ‘new’ on it.  The paper on the layout is from various designers including Basic Grey and Fab Scraps.  Pearls with a flat back in various sizes add bling to the layout.

The new layout for next week will be posted tomorrow and if you love butterflies you won’t want to miss it!

Thanks for stopping by and happy scrapping 🙂

Grow

Although I did not make any New Year’s resolutions, I decided on a word that I want to carry throughout this year.  I chose  GROW and the intention is to grow in specific aspects of my life and personality.

This growth should ultimately lead to flowers and then fruits, in other words, I must be able to measure the growth.  I am going to sit down and identify the aspects that I want (and need) to grow in and define a goal for the growth.  By the end of the year I would love to have a bowl of beautiful fruit resulting from my growth and share it with those around me…

This week’s layout is titled ‘Bloom where you are planted’.  We R Memory Keepers have a beautiful line of papers called ‘Nonsense’ and I played with it to my heart’s content!

Beautiful ribbon and lace complement the layout

Design Worx have three cute little chipboard birds that match the paper so well that I tend to think the paper inspired the design of the birds!  I coloured the chipboard birds to match the birds on the paper and let them sit on a lace branch.

Part of the title was printed on transparency and I used paint to adhere it to the page.

This page is bursting with colour and I hope it reflects the mood of the new year.

Our next Saturday class will be on 29 January 2011 from 09h00 to 12h00 and I am really looking forward to see all of you again and catch up on holiday news!

Happy scrapping till next week ;o)

I am so grateful to be back safely after a long break!  Normally I use this time to sort out stuff in my head and my life but this time was different.

We spent ten lovely days at the seaside with some of the children and grandchildren and it was good just to sit on the patio of our holiday home and watch the moods of the ocean.  Although we had rain almost every day for most of the day we had beautiful late afternoons with the kids exploring the tidal pools and the big boys men entertaining themselves with action kites or throwing rocks or whatever…

Gauteng was busy as ever when we returned and we took a day to stock up on fresh provisions and do the washing and then left for the Drakensberg.  The first two days were spent cleaning and preparing for Christmas and the family joining us.  After that… nothing much happened, except for relaxing, bonding and allowing my soul to catch up with my body after a hectic year.  Fog shrouded the mountains and the temperature dropped to 11 degrees on Christmas so we spent the day in front of the fireplace.

It is usually during this stage that I get to the point of sorting out stuff introspection.  What did happen was that I realised more and more every day that I have a lot to be grateful for.  Listening to Frans and the boys joking around the fire on the deck outside while we were relaxing in front of the fireplace brought  a feeling of contentment and deep gratitude.  For the first time in five years we were ALL together at the cabin in the Drakensberg!

Subsequently I have only one New Year’s resolution and that is to work on my gratitude – to realise and acknowledge the Grace that my family and I experience every day of our lives.

That fits in perfectly with our first layout of the year, aptly titled ‘A few of my favorite things’.  The Lost and Found collection from My Mind’s Eye is beautiful with hanging bird cages and a birdie OUTSIDE of the cage.  To me this symbolises the breaking free of  my desire for what I do not have.  I used a chipboard birdcage with a cat perched on top, but again the bird has escaped and watches the cat from above.

I just could not resist using pieces of the cardboard backing from the ribbon as embellishment on the layout.

Once I sat down and started a list of my favorite things I could not stop!  So how do you measure the things you love?

I do not know the answer to that question but I intend being grateful without measure for the things I have and love.

Happy scrapping till next week!
