Absolutely unbelievable!  Not the fact that it is raining on the Highveld in June, but how much it is raining and the thunderstorms – like a summer afternoon with all the rumbling and lightning.  Nature never seizes to amaze me.

Winter 2007 was just as incredible with the snowfall that we had.  We had a ball playing in the snow and almost had frostbite in a toe or two ;).  But what the heck, we do not see snow that often and had to make the most of it!

The moment I saw the winter range from Fancy Pants I just knew it would be perfect for a winter layout with those snow pictures on it.  Their Hot Chocolate paper has the description of all things winter on it:  ‘baby, it’s cold outside’;  ‘hot chocolate’;  ‘all bundled up’;  ‘hot cocoa’;  ‘cold hands, warm heart’ to name but a few.  A sketch from Pagemaps was my inspiration for this scrapbook layout.

I love the effect of the printed background with its groupings of snowflakes in the corners.  The frames on the left page were covered with the back of the Hot Chocolate paper instead of painting it.  The script paper on the right page is from 7Gypsies (cannot get away from them can I…)  The ribbon and trim is also from Fancy Pants.  I Printed the title in red on one of the printed papers, cut them out in rectangles and matted it on red cardstock.  The letters were outlined with a black pen to make it stand out better.

A few cross stitches with embroidery thread in matching colours add to the warmth of the layout.

Any winter pictures will go beautifully with this page, it does not have to be snow pictures.  Think bare tree branches with a solitary leaf on it, loved ones dressed up in warm winter woollies, a cup of steaming hot chocolate, a footstep in frost – really anything that symbolises winter to you.  Brrr…

This week, make time to do what you enjoy and enjoy whatever you do.  Happy creating!

Sometimes I need a break.  Seriously.  Urgently.  Away from everything and everyone.

Then I plan a break  and look forward to peace and quiet and solitude.  Then I take a break and enjoy the peace and quiet and solitude.  Then my heart speaks up.  It starts as a whisper and soon becomes a booming voice urging me to go… home!  Because home is where my heart is.  Home is where everyone I love is,  home is where everything I love is.

Maybe I’m just a house hen, a softy who cannot be away from loved ones without my heart yearning for home.  So be it, that’s me!

When I started collecting materials for our mixed media canvas class on 4 June 2011 I kept looking for stuff that symbolise home.  I found beautiful tissue paper from 7Gypsies with birds and bird homes cages on it.  Then I found an antique doorway on Bo Bunny paper.  And that’s not all I found…

A lot of distressing, stamping, dabbing, painting and what-not later this is the result.  Of course you CAN do it!

The pink detail is a rub-on from Heidi Swapp and it ties in beautifully with the rest of the colours.

A bit of hardware adds interest and builds on the home theme. You will learn a variety of techniques that you can also incorporate in  new projects.

The class will be  from 09h00 – 14h00 and includes  drinks, tea time treats and lunch.  Please bring along your hair dryer and an old(ish) brown ink pad.  Contact me immediately if you would like to attend, since space is limited and a some places are booked already!

I cannot wait to create with you on Saturday 😉

Single and happy

It is time for all my scrapbooking albums to receive a beautiful front and

back page (yes, single page) and I cannot believe that it took me so long to get around to doing it shame on me!

Of course it cannot be expected of anybody to get around to everything all the time 😉  But it is time and I solemnly declare that from now on I will create single page scrapbooking layouts on a regular basis until I have filled existing blank spaces in albums and  try to keep up with new blank spaces.

One of the single page layouts I did for this week tells the story of my youngest daughter’s first date with her boyfriend.  She wore a simple dark teal cocktail dress and I used paper from Paper Explosion’s  Tiffany range which compliment the dress colour beautifully to create this layout.

A scattering of Prima flowers forms a border for the vintage typewriter paper and another piece of the vintage paper is used as an accent in the left bottom corner of my layout.

The dragonflies are tied through eyelets with a 7Gypsies twisty that I distressed with a Tim Holtz distressing ink pad.  It  is a simple, yet elegant layout that shows off the pictures to perfection.

Happy scrapping!
