Absolutely unbelievable!  Not the fact that it is raining on the Highveld in June, but how much it is raining and the thunderstorms – like a summer afternoon with all the rumbling and lightning.  Nature never seizes to amaze me.

Winter 2007 was just as incredible with the snowfall that we had.  We had a ball playing in the snow and almost had frostbite in a toe or two ;).  But what the heck, we do not see snow that often and had to make the most of it!

The moment I saw the winter range from Fancy Pants I just knew it would be perfect for a winter layout with those snow pictures on it.  Their Hot Chocolate paper has the description of all things winter on it:  ‘baby, it’s cold outside’;  ‘hot chocolate’;  ‘all bundled up’;  ‘hot cocoa’;  ‘cold hands, warm heart’ to name but a few.  A sketch from Pagemaps was my inspiration for this scrapbook layout.

I love the effect of the printed background with its groupings of snowflakes in the corners.  The frames on the left page were covered with the back of the Hot Chocolate paper instead of painting it.  The script paper on the right page is from 7Gypsies (cannot get away from them can I…)  The ribbon and trim is also from Fancy Pants.  I Printed the title in red on one of the printed papers, cut them out in rectangles and matted it on red cardstock.  The letters were outlined with a black pen to make it stand out better.

A few cross stitches with embroidery thread in matching colours add to the warmth of the layout.

Any winter pictures will go beautifully with this page, it does not have to be snow pictures.  Think bare tree branches with a solitary leaf on it, loved ones dressed up in warm winter woollies, a cup of steaming hot chocolate, a footstep in frost – really anything that symbolises winter to you.  Brrr…

This week, make time to do what you enjoy and enjoy whatever you do.  Happy creating!

Breathe.

Let go.

And remind yourself

that this very moment

is the only one

you know you have for sure.

Truly wise words from the Queen of Words – Oprah!  I often let myself spiral into a mode of ‘hecticness’, trying to focus on an outcome way beyond what I am able to see at the moment.  I tend to forget about what I have right now and  in the process I lose out on the present moment.  Sad, don’t you think?

That is certainly one of the aspects in my life I need to grow more in.  Just being grateful for the moment that I know I have instead of focusing on a moment I do not even know I will have.

One of the moments I did enjoy thoroughly during our recent visit to Mozambique was relaxing in the warm ocean water with Frans.  It was low tide and the waves were breaking on a sand bar some distance from the beach.  The water close to the beach were gently rolling, almost like a peaceful lake.  We were just hanging together ENJOYING THE MOMENT!

My scrapbook layout for this week is about those beautiful moments – moments that I will cherish forever!  I used paper from Basic Grey and Scrapbook Walls.  The journaling cards are from Art from the Heart and I used matching paper tape from 7Gypsies.

Corli just snapped away while we were having fun and this is the result.  A beautiful blue flower from FabScraps matches the colours of the page and I used some canvas tabs from 7Gypsies.

So, at the moment I’m banning all ‘hecticness’ from my life and trying to get rid of the flu so that I can actually enjoy the process of creating!

Dress warmly against the cold, look after yourselves and spare a thought for those less fortunate than us.  Happy scrapping!

Grow

Although I did not make any New Year’s resolutions, I decided on a word that I want to carry throughout this year.  I chose  GROW and the intention is to grow in specific aspects of my life and personality.

This growth should ultimately lead to flowers and then fruits, in other words, I must be able to measure the growth.  I am going to sit down and identify the aspects that I want (and need) to grow in and define a goal for the growth.  By the end of the year I would love to have a bowl of beautiful fruit resulting from my growth and share it with those around me…

This week’s layout is titled ‘Bloom where you are planted’.  We R Memory Keepers have a beautiful line of papers called ‘Nonsense’ and I played with it to my heart’s content!

Beautiful ribbon and lace complement the layout

Design Worx have three cute little chipboard birds that match the paper so well that I tend to think the paper inspired the design of the birds!  I coloured the chipboard birds to match the birds on the paper and let them sit on a lace branch.

Part of the title was printed on transparency and I used paint to adhere it to the page.

This page is bursting with colour and I hope it reflects the mood of the new year.

Our next Saturday class will be on 29 January 2011 from 09h00 to 12h00 and I am really looking forward to see all of you again and catch up on holiday news!

Happy scrapping till next week ;o)
